Camera Club 1000

Keliwon aged 15 is studying photography, he dreams about representing his Village as a professional photographer. This is an interview with Keliwon held on 23/8/2011 in Ubud Bali:

CC 1000: "Tell me about yourself?"

Keliwon: "My name is I Made Keliwon. I was born in Belandingan, a village located at the north rim of Mount Batur Caldera - Kintamani, Bali. My Fathers name is I Mangku Suara and my Mothers name is I Mangku Dawin. My father and my mother work as farmers. I have 9 brothers and sisters. I have some cows and chicken in the fields, above the hills.

CC 1000: "Tell me why you like photography?"

Keliwon: "Because there is no photographer and cameras in my village. The scenery in my village is very beautiful. I want to tell people how it looks- the living, the house compound, and everything about my village. My village is the most underdeveloped village from all the villages around the Caldera. The education is also not high. I want tell the story to people. I want my village to be developed. I am taking pictures about what I like to see. Wether or not people come to visit my village later or not i am not thinking about too much.

CC 1000: "So far, while you are taking picture, what kind of objects do you like to take?"

Keliwon: "What I like is people. Kids who are playing, people working, my grandfather , brothers sisters and any other people. I like animals, chickens and cows in the field.

CC 1000: "Do you have a favorite picture?"

Keliwon: "Yes. the picture of my grandmother with my youngest sister."

CC 1000: "What is your hope for your future?"

Keliwon: "Even though i'm still a teenager I will keep loving photography. I like photography because, I saw in the magazine and I asked why foreigner could take a very good picture about Bali and Balinese like me can't. I want to continue my school. Even only in SMK (vocational school) but i will keep learning photography.

CC 1000: "Do you want to become a professional photographer?"

Keliwon: "I dream high to become a photographer"

CC 1000: "What cameras have you used so far?"

Keliwon: "First I use Canon a donated camera by a tourist from USA. the I use Olympus a camera donated from Australia."

CC 1000: "just dreaming, but if there is a chance to go to Australia will you go?"

Keliwon: "mmmmmm........ (thinking).......... ting.... ting...... (waiting)....... Yes, i want to go to Australia. I want to know what it looks like in the areas of Australia."

CC 1000: "Ok. thank you for your time. good luck and keep photographing!"

Keliwon: "You are very welcome... and keep smiling"
